DCEA 2024 REVIEW
As we bid farewell to 2024, the Detroit Chinese Engineers Association (DCEA) is proud to reflect on a year packed with exciting events and initiatives that ignited innovation, sparked knowledge sharing, and fostered professional growth within our community. From cutting-edge tech forums to cultural exchanges, DCAE’s efforts centered on three core pillars: Academics, Community and Society, and Cultures and Diversity. Here is a quick recap of the year’s highlights.
Academics & Technology
On April 18, 2024, DCEA hosted the 44th Detroit International Automotive Conference at Plymouth Manor. This flagship event brought together global automotive experts from Asia and North America to dive into the hottest topics like clean energy vehicles, EV charging infrastructure, AI & autonomous driving, and battery technology. Bob Holycross, Ford Vice President and Chief SES Officer delivered a captivating keynote speech. Geely Chief Scientist, Dr. Perry Gu, Tim DeBastos, Head of NA Battery Development at LG Energy Solution, and Prof. Eben Li, Dean of Vehicle & Mobility School at Tsinghua University etc. delivered thought-provoking technical presentations. Big ideas clashed and converged at the conference.
A few days later, on April 23, 2024, DCEA partnered with MKS to host the Automotive Electronics Technology Forum. This exclusive dinner event fostered dynamic discussions among professionals on automotive electrification, electronic systems in ICE cars, and battery technology. It perfectly blended networking and collaboration across technical and managerial fields.
On September 29, 2024, DCEA held Automotive Knowledge Lectures at Schoolcraft College, aiming to inspire parents, teachers, and students in STEAM education. Expert-led sessions explored everything from EV motor control and automotive NVH challenges to battery frontiers and innovative glass applications. Hands-on demonstrations left attendees with excitement and appreciation of the wonders of engineering.
Community & Society
On September 21, 2024, DCEA volunteered with Ford Motor Company to host the Career and Technology Development Seminar at Lawrence Tech University. As part of Ford Global Caring Month, this event addressed challenges related to the career development and technological advancements of DCEA members. Distinguished speakers shared invaluable insights on overcoming challenges and embracing new opportunities, offering tips on navigating professional transitions.
Cultures & Diversity
September isn’t just about technology; it is Ford Global Caring Month. In collaboration with Ford Philanthropy, DCEA orchestrated a series of events to promote Asian culture and diversity. Beyond the Career & Technology Development Seminar and the Automotive Knowledge Lectures, DCEA made waves with a Robotics & AI Basics Seminar at Troy Creative Learning. This interactive event introduced PreK-12th grade students to the fascinating world of robotics and artificial intelligence. Woven into the educational curriculum were the rich threads of Asian culture and traditions, creating a unique experience that simultaneously celebrated heritage and inspired the next generation.
It is worth mentioning that the Detroit Chinese Engineers Association (DCEA) met with a Tianjin TEDA Development Zone delegation on April 25, 2024, at Saint John's Resort to promote cooperation and exchange in the automotive industry. Both sides engaged in in-depth discussions and exchanges on automotive industry trends, investment and business policies, and possible forms of cooperation.
