"2001 Detroit Automotive Technology Conference & Exposition"

Call for Participation

Where: Lawrence Technological University, Wayne Buell Management Building,
       Southfield, MI
When:  Saturday, April 7, 2001
Sponsored by Detroit Chinese Engineers Association

General Conference Information:

The annual spring technical conference organized by DCEA will be held at
Lawrence Technological University on Saturday, April 7, 2001. The purpose of
the conference is to provide a forum for discussion and information exchange
among technical and business professionals with Chinese heritage in the
Greater Detroit area.

Tentative Program:

9:30am - 11:30am Technical sessions
· Advanced vehicle technologies and systems
· Information technologies

11:30am - 1:00pm Lunch & Keynote

1:00pm - 2:00pm Plenary session:  "Outlook of the Global Economy"

· Dr. Mark Robinson, Staff Economist, GM, "Global Economic trends and
  the Asian World Bank Initiatives"
· Ms. Katherine Zachary, Associate Editor of Ward's Automotive
  International, "The Global Automotive Business"
· Dr. Elizabeth Broidy, Staff Scientist, GM, "Managing Cultural
  Diversity in the new workplace"

3.Application/Nomination For DCEA's Young Engineer Awards:    
Criteria and Form  (Deadline: March 15, 2001)

CRITERIA:

This award is to recognize an outstanding undergraduate engineering
student(s) who will soon enter the engineering profession or pursuing
graduate studies in the filed of engineering or applied sciences.

1. Students should be an undergraduate engineering senior in good standing.

2. Students should have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.25
or higher out of a possible 4.0.

3. Students should be an active student member of DCEA or whose parent(s)
are active members of DCEA for at least one year at the time of application.

4. Students should demonstrate ability in becoming an engineer such
as completion of design projects, research, and extra curricular activities,
leadership, co-op/intern experience, community services, etc.

5. A copy of the student's resume, a recommendation letter from a
professor or an engineering professional, and a statement (not exceeding two
pages) on significant accomplishments, career goals, special
experience, etc. should be included in the nomination.  The
deadline for submitting nomination to DCEA is March 15, 2001.

6. The award will be a plaque and an appropriate gift to be presented at the
DCEA Annual Conference. (revised at board meeting Feb 3, 2001)

7. The award will be recommended by the DCEA's Awards Committee,
approved by the DCEA's Board of Directors.

** The award criteria have been approved by the DCEA's Board of Directors
and its revision will need the approval of the same group. (original
document dated August, 1999.)
