1. Announcement: Fall 2000 DCEA Special Event
DCEA 2000 Fall Event
Saturday, October 28, 2000
To accommodate the diverse interests and networking needs of the Detroit
Metro Chinese community, DCEA is extending an open invitation to all to
attend a special event with lunch. This event is designed to be
informative on relevant family issues with parallel sessions on Investment
Strategies & Estate Planning and Health & Nutrition. Prof. Zhemin Zheng,
Director of the Chinese Academy of Science from Beijing, will be our
Keynote Speaker on "The Future of Science and Technology in China". DECA
members (current and future) and anyone interested in the event are
welcome. Pre-registration is required.

2. Announcement: Detroit Chinese Engineers Association 2000 Outstanding
Achievement Award

Detroit Chinese Engineers Association 2000 Outstanding Achievement Award
This year, the Board of the Detroit Engineers Association (DCEA) will present its
second Outstanding Achievement Award for a DCEA member. The last award was
received by Dr. David Chang from General Motors Corp. in 1998. This award was
designed to honor an engineer, scientist, or professor from the Chinese community
in the Detroit metropolitan area who has shown outstanding performance or achievement
in engineering, professional experience, technical society, and community activities. A
nomination for a candidate should be based on strong evidence in the
following categories:
(1) Technical Achievement
(2) Leadership
(3) Community Service
The nomination package should include the following documents:
(1) A nomination letter from a professional (engineer, scientist, or educator) or an
organization in the Detroit Metropolitan area.
(2) A copy of resume (a list of publication is also preferred)
(3) Two supporting letters from two professionals to describe this candidate's outstanding
accomplishments in the above categories.
All nomination letters or credential should be submitted to the Nomination Committee for
the review process before December 30, 2000. The DCEA Nomination Committee will review
all candidates and submit their final selection for the DCEA Board approval in January, 2001.
The winner will be recognized and honored in an Award Banquet (to be announced
separately) jointly sponsored by local Chinese organizations.
The submission should be sent electronically (plain text file or Microsoft Office Word document),
no later than December 30, 2000, to any of the following members of the DCEA 2000 Outstanding
Achievement Award Committee:
