1. News release: Community Service day for helping hungry!
ACA and many organizations will come to Gleaners Community Food Bank
on Saturday(9/19/98 1:00pm-4:00pm) and pack food boxes. This volunteer
service is a wonderful camaraderie shared by adults and children from
various organization in metro Detroit area. It is the golden
opportunity for us to demonstrate our commitment to the communities
where we live and work, our positive image, and our caring heart.
The volunteer task is simple:
packing food boxes. It's fun packing boxes with canned and dried food
products or repackging rice, cereal, fresh corn or frozen gree beans
into manageable size plastic containers. The size of our volunteer
team is not limited. It can be as small as 20 people or as large as
hundreds and thousands. It DOES NOT require any preparations for the
organizers. All we need to do is SHOW UP with hugh crowd!!! We can
also keep kids busy in breaking boxes.
Gleaners and its partner agencies have literally been the only hope
for food for many hungry people who are senior citizens, single-parent
households, the disabled or ill, the working poor or unemployed, the
homeless , and those experiencing an emergency or crisis(flood, fire,
death in the family, job loss etc.).
Forty-one percent of the hungry are children.
"To plant seeds, and watch the renewal of life - This is the most
satisfactory thing a man can do".
