Main Responsibilities:

• Interview and desk-based research and analysis of market demand, technology and supply chains for automotive components and systems, with focus on Powertrain / Vehicle systems /components in the Asian region

• Mainly Chinese market, but also ideally some role in research and analysis of Japanese and other Asian markets, including liaison with sub-contractors

• Write reports of findings and analysis in English

• Develop cooperative relationships for research purposes with technical and marketing personnel at component suppliers, vehicle manufacturers, regulatory agencies and industry associations

• Project management, and customer and business development support

Skills and Experience:

• Understanding of Chinese and other Asian automotive markets, the development of the automotive business and automotive systems technologies

• Strong analytical and quantitative skills

• Experience with the Chinese automotive industry at the interface of the OEMs and suppliers. Alternatively, experience of automotive research, methodologies and analysis   

• Self-directed. Ability to plan and execute work with minimal supervision

• Deliver work as part of a team under pressure with often tight deadlines

• Excellent written and oral communication skills in the English language

• Fluency in written and oral Chinese (Mandarin) is essential. Knowledge of Japanese and/or Korean would be an advantage

• Degree or higher  qualification  in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering, Business Studies, Market Research or related discipline

• High degree of proficiency with MS Office, especially Excel

Qualifications Required / Desired:

      The China Global Design Centre Leader is responsible for all aspects of establishing and running S&C¡¯s new Global Design Centre.  The responsibility requires the Site Leader to be a key member of the S&C China Design Centre task team.  The task team is required to establish an operating Design Centre by first quarter by Q2 2006 and bringing it to first phase operational status by Q4 2006.   Once the Site Leader has established phase 1 operational status he/she will require to support the Global Engineering Product Line leaders to execute AOP and Strap commitments. The site leader will also be responsible for successful planning and implementation of phase 2 which will include the transfer of one of S&C¡¯s major product line Design CoEs and its associated engineering support teams.  The China design centre will be part of the S&C Technology leadership team and work closely with all the team to deliver the technology objectives.  He/she will work particularly closely with the Indian Global Design Centre in Bangalore to ensure sharing of best practice of our EMR Design Centres.  The China Global Design Centre leader will also be an integral member of the Asia-Pacific PAC.

 Responsibilities of the Site Leader

• Lead the establishment of S&C¡¯s Global Design Centre

• Lead the recruitment of all the Centre Staff

• Lead the creation of centre infrastructure

• Provide main liaison with Honeywell China Organization

• Provide main liaison with local and national Chinese community/government

• Provide main liaison between China GDC and all the business DCoEs with customer facing engineers in China

• Support the transfer and establishment of the Global Speed & Direction DCoE

• Ensure success of all projects initiated out of the China GDC

• Create and implement an engineering performance appraisal system with local & S&C HR

• Build and maintain a high output, high quality engineering culture

• Ensure rapid solution to local people, equipment, issues and disputes

• Create and implementation a strong financial reporting system with local and S&C finance

• Ensure strong customer engineering customer relationships within SE Asian region

• Ensure strong liaison with Bangalore Global Design Centre optimizing use of resource across the entire Asian region

 Key Requirements for the Site Leader :

• Strong understanding of Chinese culture

• Fluent Mandarin speaker

• Demonstrated success in an international technology management role

• Recent involvement in Globalization programs

• Track record of setting up new organizations/locations

• At least 10 years experience in a New Product Development environment

• At least 5 years experience of working in the US and or Europe in a technology management role

• Working Knowledge of the electronic components industry preferable in Sensors or Switches

• Outstanding record in introducing new products and transferring technology

• Independent thinker who can work under minimal direct supervision

• Creative approach to problem solving

• Green Belt DFSS or equivalent certified desired
